Notes (Photo)
9-24-20: -Cindy sherman has subtle details like the note in the girls hand to hint at a deeper story. -She is framed by dark orange and brown bricks, contrasting with her bright clothes to give it pop. -Robert Frank has people of different races represented on a train, to depict the american melting pot. -Elliot potter uses the dark greenery to make the fall trees' bright yellows and reds pop.
- Imogen Cunningham's blurred imagery gives the image the appearance of having flat blocks of colors building them up, looking like an unblended painting. -Don Mcullin show the different perspectives of a town, all watching the same horrific scene, unknown to the viewer, all you know is their pain.-Brassai's photo of the train station depicts the people as shadowy silhouettes, the light shining through the subway could be meant to draw attention to the outside world, one that they subjects may be attempting to escape. -Ansel Adams' photo of the forested canyon in yosemete has a looming tone, the focus on the mountains gives them an all encompassing aura to them, powerful.

9-28-20 Reading of a painting
Description- Takes place at night, Soldiers slaughtering helpless citizens, who are making an effort to make peace. 2 men on the ground bleeding, possibly dead, a man with his hands in fists crouching above them possibly grieving. Focus is drawn to the man in white, light shining on him, pleading for mercy. Soldiers are using a weapon particularly used by the french, likely french soldiers.
Analysis- The pleading shows that they are truly innocent, vulnerable and defenseless. Not being able to see the french soldiers faces, is meant to mean that they lack humanity. It's significant in art history, expressing the horror of war.
Interpretation- The piece is about the brutality and lack of humanity shared by the french authority, senseless killing, The colors are bleak and monotone, except for the civilians, to show that they are different, that they are human, while the soldiers are no more tools than housing or soil.
Judgement- This piece is significant. It's something that is repeated throughout history, it is the system of governance. Government is a machine, the very opposite of man, when soldiers become part of that machine they lack humanity, and are the force of authority, they are on the side of power rather than the people. It debatably shows what is happening now, police getting away with committing terrible acts without repercussion. The piece is able to demonstrate it well, using subtle detail to emphasize the innocence of the citizens.
10-5-20- Aperture or F-stop from 2.9 to 22. How does this setting affect your image? it will change its depth of field.
• When manipulating depth of field or focal length, what type of subject should you have for a shallow depth of field? What aperture range is best for a large depth of field? Higher AR is better for larger depths of field while the opposite is true for images that are closer.
• What does the AV setting do? What do you adjust? You choose the aperture as your camera chooses the best setting to compliment it.
• Shutter speed how does this affect your image? Which requires more light? Short exposures require more light though it will allow your an image that is in motion to be clear and focused.
• Explain why an image may be underexposed or overexposed. Underexposed is when it is not recieving enough light, over exposed is when there is light to the point of making the image unclear.
• What does the TV mode prioritize on your camera? It focuses on your primary light source.
• The ISO number is: the sensitivity of how your camera interprets light, more light= lower Iso, less light= higher Iso
