Letter of Introduction
Hello, my name is Jacob Rose and over the course of the past four years i’ve put time and effort intro creating artwork. I’ve put a lot of time intro practicing shading with graphite, drawing the human figure, and even creating characters. I don’t see a career realistically coming of it any time soon; I need to push myself further intro creating finished pieces, i’ve become too caught up in scrapping anything that seems slightly wrong. But I’m growing out of it. Art is a discipline, and even if I don’t make a career out of it, the hours I’ve put into problem solving, working within a group, all translate well into possible future careers. When working with someone creatively you learn to make compromises, however you also learn how to bounce ideas off one another. Dedicating time to producing work requires discipline, limiting your distractions and getting it done. My graphite portraits were started and finished upon the same day, usually taking about 6-8 hours per piece. Behind creating these finished pieces I’ve put time into improving through smaller scale exercises. These take the forms of gesture practice, studies of my nose, my eyes and so on. These smaller exercises, while they might not have the visual prestige of a finished work, are all part of the process. Through these studies I have been given perspective on the fact that good things take time. I can’t just choose to play guitar one day and expect to play well without practice; I can’t expect to get out what I don’t put in. Art has been a discipline that has given me the opportunity to work with others, problem solve creatively, and to put time into producing something of quality, and while I might not plan on going into a career in the arts, I do plan on continuing my work and creating art wherever I might happen to go in life.
